Phonics and Reading Schemes

At Bugbrooke Primary School, we use the successful Read, Write, Inc phonics program to give our pupils the best start in their reading journey. This scheme is developed by Ruth Miskin, R,W,I is a structured engaging approach to teaching reading, writing and spelling. It is designed to help children read effortlessly so they can focus on comprehension. Once children have developed their blending skills, they will take home a reading book aligned to their phonics stage. We believe in the importance of working together to nurture a love of reading. Parents can help by:

·      Practising sounds and words at home-using the resources provided

·      Listening to children read their reading books, encouraging expression and fluency

·      Read a variety of books aloud to foster a love of stories and language

Boom Reader and Accelerated Reader

At Bugbrooke Community Primary School, we use Boom Reader as a way of recording when the children read in school and at home.  'Go Read'.

When children have completed the Read, Write Inc scheme, they will move onto Accelerated Reader - an online tool for assessing reading ability (including comprehension) as well as the pupil's understanding of the texts they read.

Handwriting

At Bugbrooke, we use Kinetic Letters as a scheme for teaching the formation and joining of letters.
